I asked the nail tech to clean up and fix the smeared French tip. At first she was saying what? What? Asking like she didn’t understand what I wanted. I asked her again and she said it’s already dry. She refused to clean and re-touch it and proceeded to apply the clear coat. I was surprised. It was like she didn’t care about customer service and just wanted the task to be over with. I spent $90 on gel French mani and gel pedi before tip and it was underwhelming and disappointing experience. The front receptionist guy was friendly but I don’t think I’ll be coming back here.

I absolutely love Kim & David. I met David about 15 years ago & he has always been the most kind person. I also met Natalie 15 years ago & she now does my lashes. She is the BEST!! I get compliments almost everyday on my lashes. She also does my waxing & micro blading she has a very light touch, so it doesn’t hurt.

To me it was just another nail place. Clean enough which was why I stayed. They have a large selection of gel colors but I felt like most of the polish in general was super old and nasty. I felt rushed to pick a color and get started. I picked what I wanted and the lady bright me a few to match the help I picked. Only 1 of the 3 wasn’t sticky and old. Overall she did a nice job but not sure I’d go back.

FAQs

Is going to the nail salon bad for your nails? ›

Beyond nail polish and UV dryers, Mockbee said nail salons pose other potential dangers. “The risk of bacterial or fungal infection is most likely the greatest risk,” she said.

What are the strongest salon nails? ›

For the longest-lasting manicure, choose a gel or acrylic style. Gel nail polish is less likely to chip, and acrylic is even stronger than gel.

Are salon manicures worth it? ›

Regular manicures will keep your nails clean and strong, preventing breakage. As a bonus, many salons also offer treatments like a paraffin dip or nail hardening to make nails even stronger.

How do I choose a manicurist? ›

Ultimately, trust your gut feeling when selecting a nail technician – choose someone who makes you feel comfortable, listens to your concerns, and demonstrates a genuine passion for their work. Finding a good nail tech may take some time and experimentation.

What is the healthiest nail option? ›

Choose soak-off gel nails instead of acrylic nails.

While gel nails can cause nail brittleness, peeling, and cracking, they're more flexible than acrylic nails. This means your own nails are less likely to crack. You'll want to ask for gel nails that soak off rather than ones that must be filed off.

What should you not do at a nail salon? ›

It's fine to take an interest in your nail technician's tools, but it's never OK to touch them — especially if you don't have their permission. Instead of grabbing a file to shape your nails the way you want, just communicate with your technician to avoid an awkward situation.

Which nails last longer, acrylic or gel? ›

Gel nails, while durable, aren't as strong as acrylic nails. They are more flexible than acrylic nails and less resistant to chipping or breaking. In general, acrylic nails are more durable than gel nails, but gel nails have a more natural look.

What's better for your nails, gel or dip? ›

"Gel polish provides flexibility which may feel more natural and is great on healthy natural nails. Weak or damaged nails that need more strength may prefer the hardness of dip powder," says Di Lullo. So, if you're using your hands a lot, dip powder should be your go-to, as it's also more scratch-resistant than gel.

Which nail type lasts the longest? ›

It really depends on your individual needs and preferences. If you're looking for the most durable option possible, acrylic nails are the way to go. However, if you're looking for an option that is easier to remove, dip nails may be a better choice. Gel nails are a good middle ground between the two.

When should you not get your nails done? ›

Dr. Massick emphasized that it's fine to get a manicure for a special occasion or as a gift to yourself, but people should avoid going every week or every three weeks that many people find themselves in. “It's important to allow your natural nails time to be polish-free for periods of time.”

How much should I spend on nails? ›

On average, a basic manicure at a salon can range from $20 to $50, with a national average of around $45. However, when opting for more specialized services like gel polish or French tip nails, the prices can escalate.

Why are nails so expensive now? ›

"The job of a nail tech isn't easy, costs are rising all around us, the costs of products and tools are also rising along with utility, rent and those things.

How to tell a good nail salon? ›

Here are just a few of our top tips for finding the best spot for your next hands-and-feet pamper session:
  1. Check the service menu before hand.
  2. Ask for recommendations before choosing a nail salon.
  3. Look at customer reviews.
  4. Consider your budget when choosing a nail salon.
  5. Experience.
  6. Hygiene.
  7. Look at the products used.

What is the new nail technique better than gel? ›

Polygel nails are stronger than gel nails and more flexible than acrylic nails, which makes them less likely to chip or break. “If someone is hard on their hands, it bounces back more easily instead of cracking,” says Kandalec.

What is the best type of manicure? ›

Which Type of Manicure is Best for Your Nails?
  • If you have weak or brittle nails, consider a regular or shellac manicure as they are less damaging.
  • If longevity is a priority, opt for a gel or dip powder manicure.
  • If you want to add length or dramatically change your nail shape, acrylics could be your best bet.
